Winter has passed, our salads are growing and this update is WELL over due. Let's talk education... A big part of what we do is education and our goal is to help young people develop a healthy, respectful relationship with food. Quite the broad statement but stick with me. Each school is unique and it is up to us to find a place within their individual circumstance. Therefore, having such a broad mission statement allows us to adapt and achieve as much as possible within any given framework. So, without any further ado and with much excitement, I'd like to talk about Sandymoor School. Luckily for us, Sandymoor is very much a progressive school and the head (Andrew Green-Howard) is actively supportive of holistic education. So much so, that he has given over two hours a week and funding enough for us to help the students plan, build and run their very own functioning market garden. As you can well imagine, this is a framework with real scope and we are beyond excited at the prospects. The pupils will be actively engaging with every dimension of food; from seed to market to consumption. Through doing, they will be learning real and valuable transferable skills. The students are not just growing, they are founding a real business and are responsible for every facet of the operation; from picking weeds to managing the accounts. This is more than an a business opportunity for us; it is a chance to build something meaningful, necessary and worthwhile. Right now the program is very much in it's infancy and the pupils, like us, are building foundations. Watch this space...
